ATI/AMD Graphics and MythDora 12.23

Hi all, currently I have an ATI 9600XT AGP card (i know it's old, but it works and is silent) powering my MD box.

I've just installed Fedora12 on my other, main PC (which uses an ATI HD3870 PICe card) for testing and etc. Unfortunately I have found that it's pretty much impossible to get this 3870 card working under Fedora 12 (and thus im assuming MythDora 12.23 as well).

A stack of people have reported that the mesa-dri-drivers-experimental have sorted their ATI driver problems for them (and some even had to resort to using the Rawhide (fed13) drivers), alas I've had no success. I'm not aware of anyone getting any of the official ATI drivers (v9.8 thru 10.2) working on Fedora 12 at all.. Fedora 11 and 10 yeh, but Fed12 comes with Xorg 1.7 (please correct me if im wrong) and this stuffs up the ATI driver.. 2d works fine, but I've found that I need the drivers to get installed correctly for me to get 1080i/p video to play without stuttering..

Admittedly I haven't tried my 9600XT in Fed12 yet to see how it fares - that's next on the list (but requires me to take apart the HTPC, which the wife isn't too keen on), but it hasn't been easy going with my 3870 yet..

Has anyone come across a way to solve this? If this is workable, will the appropriate drivers for my 9600XT (or other ATI cards) be available on the MythDora disc? or via a yum update?

I dont really want to have to go buy new hardware for MD12.23...

Thanks for any info.

Not to answer my own question, but.....

Not to answer my own question, but.....

It appears that upon the release of v10.4 of the AMD/ATI linux driver (In April obviously), xorg 1.7 should be supported (IE Fedora 12). Apparently people using Ubuntu claim that it 'should technically' work with Xorg 1.8 as well (IE Fedora 13), but i guess we'll see that when it comes out..

I guess my question now is whether these AMD drivers will be included with MythDora 12.23??? Or will we ATI users have to download the drivers and install them manually??

Thanks a bunch to the devs - you guys do an AMAZING job :)

I believe there was a beta

I believe there was a beta tester in the group that failed to get ati to work in the installer, but used vesa to build his machine, then switched to the included xorg-ati driver pack. He reported back that his card was working fine.

However, as always the ati driver support is spotty, and you'll probably need to add the extra support when it comes available. We're hoping to release real soon now.
