I could drink all night and still have the where with all to set up Play Lists in MediaPortal. But it seems that in MythMusic that unless you want play lists based on certain information and completed automatically by MythMusic, meaning heaps of inputting of data, that you are out of luck. With over 20 GB of music, WAV not MP3, I am not going to this effort.</p>\n<p>One other suggestion with the new release, please incorporate a selection of the old themes. I find the new themes very uninspiring.</p>\n<p>As an aside, MythDora has nothing to fear from the latest MythBuntu release. I have a test mule computer 2.8 HT P4 processor, 1 GB of ram, several harddrives with different OS\'s, just pull the power lead from one HD to another. All my other computers are latest tech, AMD based.</p>\n<p>What I am finding with MythBuntu 9.10 is that it does not like my DViCO FusionHDTV DVB-T Dual Digital 4, rev 1 at all, crashes or freezes when trying to complete a channel search even after installing recommended firmware. When I select my DVICO DVB-T Plus, no problems. In MythTV can still use the Dual card to record or watch TV. Other problems system slow and when using Terminal can type in a command then have to wait for it to actually appear. Also internet searches are very slow. I really do not think they have tested this system at all.</p>\n<p>Thinking, I have used MythBuntu before and it was not this bad, reinstalled 9.04, what a difference, still not as good as MythDora, but still a long way ahead of 9.10.</p>\n<p>Worst part, I have installed XBMC without a problem, except having to install libass3_0.9.6-1_i386, and is working very well, remote control as well.</p>\n<p>Regards</p>\n', created = 1369233505, expire = 1369319905, headers = '', serialized = 0 WHERE cid = '1:b4aac0d6d5812be2a1390790e64353bf' in /var/www/mythdora/html/includes/cache.inc on line 109.

http://www.howtoforge.com/installing-xbmc-on-fedora-9-i386

When I try to configure, ./configure, I get a message, configure: error: Could not find a required library. Please see the README for your platform. But no information on which library.

So searched further and found,

http://packman.links2linux.de/package/XBMC/

Started installation and received a message that I need to install Python 2.6. Accessed these sites,

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=139653

http://makeyjl.blogspot.com/2009/01/building-python-26-and-30-alongside.html

Tried both methods and installation seems to go correctly. Along the way I do get a message when using the make command,

Failed to find the necessary bits to build these modules:
_tkinter bsddb185 sunaudiodev

but reading through the forums, not considered serious.

Tried to reinstall XBMC and still receive a message about Python 2.6.

Looking through the various folders it seems that Python 2.6 has been installed, but maybe they are the wrong folders, and XBMC installation can't find them.

Some guidance would be appreciated, thanks.

Why not make things easy on

Why not make things easy on yourself and install using an rpm?

This looks to be the stable stuff so not sure if bleeding edge is what you want but it does work. If for some reason you have missing fonts then this post has a fix at the bottom. http://www6.frugalware.org/index.php/XBMC_Legacy_Instructions

Installed XBMC from link that you provided, and all seemed to go well.

One problem, can't open XBMC.

Tried a command line start, no success.

Completed a File Browser search with the following results,

Where to now, thanks.

Also it would be great if you guys had a suggested improvements section in the forum, and yes I know that you guys do the hard yards in regard to making the changes happen, and very much appreciated.

A couple of suggestions that I have are,

A tick and flick solution to making MythDora wake up for scheduled recordings.

Incorporating XBMC into MythDora and being able to select it from the MythTV menu.

Reason for XBMC is that I consider the MythMusic setup woefull. I could drink all night and still have the where with all to set up Play Lists in MediaPortal. But it seems that in MythMusic that unless you want play lists based on certain information and completed automatically by MythMusic, meaning heaps of inputting of data, that you are out of luck. With over 20 GB of music, WAV not MP3, I am not going to this effort.

One other suggestion with the new release, please incorporate a selection of the old themes. I find the new themes very uninspiring.

As an aside, MythDora has nothing to fear from the latest MythBuntu release. I have a test mule computer 2.8 HT P4 processor, 1 GB of ram, several harddrives with different OS's, just pull the power lead from one HD to another. All my other computers are latest tech, AMD based.

What I am finding with MythBuntu 9.10 is that it does not like my DViCO FusionHDTV DVB-T Dual Digital 4, rev 1 at all, crashes or freezes when trying to complete a channel search even after installing recommended firmware. When I select my DVICO DVB-T Plus, no problems. In MythTV can still use the Dual card to record or watch TV. Other problems system slow and when using Terminal can type in a command then have to wait for it to actually appear. Also internet searches are very slow. I really do not think they have tested this system at all.

Thinking, I have used MythBuntu before and it was not this bad, reinstalled 9.04, what a difference, still not as good as MythDora, but still a long way ahead of 9.10.

Worst part, I have installed XBMC without a problem, except having to install libass3_0.9.6-1_i386, and is working very well, remote control as well.

Make that over 60 GB of music. Probably a bit harsh on MythMusic, quickly glanced at the Wiki and now have a better understanding of the way it operates . Never had to read instructions before for setting up playlists, but always a first time.

I had previously pushed all of the buttons on my remote and am sure I did not see the menu come up that refers to playlists.

Now seems to be working well.

When you start xbmc from

When you start xbmc from command line, what errors do you get? Make sure you have all the required packages installed per the Wiki.
http://fedorajunkies.com/index.php/XBMC#2._Install_Packages

It worked for me other then the fonts issue I posted earlier but the workaround corrected that. It's been a while since I visited this but I think I remember XBMC coming up after a reboot but not sure. I think I had to use some command line options. Doing an xmbc --help should give you some options.

The error log does exist.

The error log does exist. You need to find out what it says. I have a feeling the error might be the strings.xml file which is part of the no fonts issue. The link I posted regarding legacy instructions no longer works but here is another.

XBMC

Dennis I modified the file referred to, changing from English (US) to English.

Still does not start, copy of Terminal and relevant file attached.

[mythtv@localhost ~]$ xbmc
sh: xdpyinfo: command not found
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/xbmc/FEH.py", line 171, in
if (badColorDepth()):
File "/usr/share/xbmc/FEH.py", line 150, in badColorDepth
return bitDepth
UnboundLocalError: local variable 'bitDepth' referenced before assignment
[mythtv@localhost ~]$

Dennis ignore this, I completed a re installation of MythDora, and reading my post realised that I had not re installed xdpyinfo.

I am now at the stage of XBMC starting, but virtually no text, this is the Terminal,

[mythtv@localhost ~]$ xbmc
The XBMC_HOME environment variable is not set.
CRITSEC[0x8bedca4]: Trying to enter destroyed section.

CRITSEC[0x8bef800]: Trying to enter destroyed section.

I will read further in the post that you referred to, and hopefully solve the problem.

Thanks

Now have text, but still have to try it out.

XBMC

Seems to be working well, good sound on my computer Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 Speaker System, so should be good on my full sound system.

Could not get sound on MythBuntu, did not try that hard, and all the features did not seem to be working, not that I was aware at the time, first time I have used XBMC. I actually believed what I read, which is not my usual mode of operation.

I updated the software on this new MythDora installation and received this message when trying to start XBMC,

[mythtv@localhost ~]$ xbmc
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 177.82,
but this NVIDIA driver component has version 180.60. Please make
sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components
have the same version.

File "/usr/share/xbmc/FEH.py", line 27, in error
if "Qt" in Output:

[mythtv@localhost ~]$

I tried to uninstall the 180 by using Add/Remove software, but if I followed that path half my system would have been uninstalled as well.

So tried the uninstall method listed in the Upgrading MD 10.21 to Mythtv 0.22 RC1 article, yum downgrade \*myth\*, except changed myth to nvidia. I do not think it did much, if anything.

Then tried to reinstall the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.08-pkg1, but received a kernel conflict message with NVIDIA attempting unsuccessfully to fix the problem. Anyway, restarted the computer and it was all working again, the restart is probably what fixed the problem.

I reinstalled MythDora yesterday with the software updates, and shock of shocks there was the Mythtv 0.22 RC1 GUI staring me in the face. I must have made too many changes for the yum uninstall to work.

With this reinstallation I have not even started Mythtv, so will I have any trouble going back to Mythtv 0.21. If I have to use Mythtv 0.22 RC1 I will be doing a mix and match of the themes to get something I like. I have already saved the old themes folder to my Home Folder in preparation.
