Hey everybody,

I was just playing around with the new "Internal" DVD player insted of xine ( i could not even get it to do anything.)and i think i have screwed the system some how.

After changing the palyer setting in setup to "Internal" (without the quotes) i got nothing. So i changed it back to the xine command string and still nothing. Oh well, comming from windows world, i restarted still nothing.

So i killed off the frontend and stopped the backend and started up each in a terminal window so i could see what they were doing.

Tried to run the DVD play command and the terminal window showed that xine was not setup correctly. It seems that i had "xine --pfhq" instead of "xine -pfhq". Fix that it setup and then hit the play button in mythfrontend, what u know it works. Damm fingers.....

So i kill of the frontend via ESC and then the backend via CTRL-C and close both termial seession via "exit" then restarted the PC (old habbits die hard)....

THen all i get is Grub>
(also the HDD light is solid)

Any ideas?

I would use an actual FC disk for the rescue linux part of things instead of your MythDora disk.

HI Dennis,

HI Dennis,

THanks this looks like it is what i want.....

(why cant it just work?)

The link does give out some

The link does give out some basic error reporting. If it's the bad one like I just had on a test system then a reinstall is maybe your only option.

Hi,

Hi,

Shit. Error 15 and error 17 cant find file system.

looks like a reload.

crap.

Oh no.....

Oh no.....

Ok I had a recent Mythconverg dump so i just blew it away and reinstalled.

No problem reinstalling and after reimporting the database everything back to the way it was. cool. It even recorded TV and played that back no problem.

Then I watched a DVD, but for some reason the DVD would not skip back or chapter back, then it just crashed. No problem and quick reboot and

GRUB>.....

Me thinks i have a probelm.........

CH

Uh yep. Sounds like you have

Uh yep. Sounds like you have a HD taking a huge dump.

ohhh now that is interesting.....

ohh ok then get you laughing gear around this one.

ok i figure one of the HDD is dead, great pull out the one i think it is and reorganise the drives. Great all done.

Decided that I will do a custom install and better use the 200gb HDD /video the 80GB for the rest.

*** actualy read the custom install notes***
installed everything,
no problems, get to mythtvsetup and only select the most basic things as i am going to push a backup DB config over it.

Great Myth starts and all is good uptill this point

I then kill off front & backends and try to copy my stored DB over the current one.
#mysql -u mythtv -pmythtv mythconverg < mythconverg_backup.sql

this command comes back with no errors, but when I start myth backup again it is still in the uncofigured state. I have done this same procedure before and it worked.

I checked the permissions on the mythconverg_backup.sql file and no problems there

Interestingly the database seems to "reset" its self. I can change something liike the menu form whatever to DVR. I run the command above and it seems togo back to the way it was.

I even go the cd that has the saved file on it and pulled it off that again to make sure it was not currupt.....

Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

CH

ohhh now that is interesting.....

something funny going on here, it would not post the whole thing.
