OK guys, I've got FC 6 with mythtv installed. I can capture video and play using the cat command. I can capture it to the /storage directories. Once I click watch tv, it goes to a black screen and about 3 sonds after it freezes. Any ideas? I thought maybe it was the #2 and #4 in setup in the faq, but that result in a freeze, just a black screen. Thanks for any ideas guys.

Is this a full FC6 install?

Is this a full FC6 install? If so it maybe permission related in /storage. Make sure your user has r/w permissions to that directory. If that is all correct then this is most likely an incorrect setup in mythtvsetup.

Can you guys point my in the

Can you guys point my in the right direction to imporve the quality of the s-video tv out on the 6200? What is happening is I get some nearly transparent bars on my tv once the system boots up. The consist of diagonal lines or snow. Also watching anything that moves like a ticker on ESPN, the text becomes blurry when it moves. It looks pretty good when it's not moving though. It has nothing to do with Myth because I get the same thing when I'm viewing anything from the computer on my tv. I have a 42" plasma that I'm hooking up to. Should everything be crystal clear on that, like fonts on the desktop? If so, it's not. I assume it's probably resolution related, but I don't know.

If the diagonal bars/snow

If the diagonal bars/snow show up immediately when the PC is switched on or displaying the menus, that sounds like a grounding or noise problem. You could start out by making sure the covers are securely attached on the PC and try disconnecting the cable coax to see if that makes a difference. This has come up here and on the MythTV users list a number of times and searching on "grounding" or "ground loop" might bring some useful help.
If it only shows up while watching tv or a recording, that's a different bag that is handled differently.

The motion blurring sounds like you need to turn de-interlacing on. Utilities/Setup > Setup > TV Settings > Playback. Up at the top of the screen, click the checkbox next to Deinterlace playback and then to the right select from Linear, Kernel or Bob. Any of those should work for you but each produces slightly different effects in the picture so you can try each one and decide which you like best.

Yeah fonts will never look

Yeah fonts will never look good on a TV. But here are some possible tweaks for your SVIDEO. If you've mentioned these already I'm sorry. Make sure that your max resolution is set to the max of 720x480. This is done in the recording profiles. Try using another playback library file other then Standard, maybe libmpeg2. The deinterlace filter (Bob, kernel, linear) is a good option to try as well. Start there but try these one at a time as you don't want to not know what option actually solved your problems.

no, it's not loaded. If I /sbin/modprobe lirc_imon it shows as loaded but I still get the same errors...

I did some looking and I also have to install imon_vfd from venky's website.

here are the instructions

I made it to

Compile the module (make -C /usr/src/linux SUBDIRS=$PWD modules)

and I get this error

make: *** /usr/src/linux: No such file or directory. Stop.

Two possibilities

In following Jarod's instructions, Chapter 5. third paragraph "WARNING, DOUBLE-CHECK THIS NOW:", did you do this test successfully?

In Chapter 3. "Optionally, you might also want to add these groups:" Did you add "Development -> Development Libraries" and "Development -> Development Tools"? If not, use Add/Remove software to add them now.

yes I did have the i586, but went to the wiki like the guide said and fixed that. I doubled checked everything I have both a i686 kernel and the i586 kernel, is that ok?

I found another howto on installing the same imon_vfd.

Quote:

STEP 2: INSTALL IMON_VFD

Now download the file from Venky for the standalone Imon VFD Driver:http://venky.ws/projects/imon/#standalone

Untar it:

Code:
tar xvzf imon_vfd.tgz

cd imon

Donwload the following patch from Garth Dahlstrom's web site and put it in the imon directory:

http://stacktrace.org/index_html/200...imon-2.6.patch

Then apply the patch and compile:

Code:
cat imon-2.6.patch | patch

make -C /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.17-10-generic/ SUBDIRS=$PWD modules

sudo make install

This will have created the /dev/lcd0 device that you need to talk to the LCD.

I have nothing like this in the /src/ folder

/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.17-10-generic/

I assume thats where I'm running into problems...

Yes, when you replace a kernel, the old one is left in place so you can use it if the new one bombs.

It looks like the patch you're trying to install is hardcoded for an old obsolete kernel. :-(

You don't need a i586

S-video is a low bandwidth analog connection and ought to be illegal for driving a 42" plasma set,
but I've never used a dvi to component cable so I just don't know if it will work. If you have more than one HDMI connector on the set I'd use a HDMI to DVI cable, but if you only have one HDMI input you might want to keep it free for a Blu-Ray DVD player. The dvi connection should give you a cleaner picture unless you've got ground loop problems. And you're absolutely going to have to use it if you ever add an HDTV tuner.

And I don't know squat about lcdproc.

I added another tuner and a digital sound cound

Hey guys, I added a digital soundcard, a chaintech AV-710, and another 150 tuner card. I went into setup and configured the second input for Myth. Do I have to do anything else for that? I wasn't sure what key toggled inputs, (don't have the keys memorized yet ;)) so I tried toggling the pip window but no windows came up. It also only picked up the via onboard audio, but I forgot to check to see if I had to disable it in the bios. I'm assuming that's atleast part of the problem.

A couple things...

Make sure that the second card is set to use /dev/video1 in mythtv-setup. I think myth offers you /video0 and you have to use the drop down list to change it.

The "y" key toggles cards. It's normal for that to take a second or two.

Yes, you need to go into the bios and disable the VIA sound chip. That will free up an IRQ and prevent Linux from trying to set them both up, which would only confuse Mythtv.

Ordinarily, it's a good strategy to disable any unused ports like parallel port, unused raid controller, PS2 mouse, etc. because it leaves you with less shared interrupts for the software to deal with, but with VIA you have to be very careful because they sometimes tie things together in weird ways, like agp not working unless usb is enabled or vice versa.
