Wireless net card support

I have been a very happy user of MythDora for a few months now. Thanks for making it possible to Linux newbies like myself to be able to install MythTV:-)

Now I want to slowly improve my system and the first thing is connect to my wireless network. I have a Belkin USB net card and by googling I found some links to Ndiswrapper, which makes it possible to re-use the Windows drivers to the net card. To me all that seems a bit complicated though, so my question is: does the MythDora installer offer any help? If not in the current version then maybe the new FC4 based version?

If Ndiswrapper is the only way, then any tips to make it more smooth are welcome.

PS Why is there no link to MythDora on the distribution link page at mythtv.org (http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=Web_Links&l_op=viewlink&cid=3). That would increase the number of happy MythDora users I am sure...

Yes ndiswrapper is a wrapper

Yes ndiswrapper is a wrapper script that makes windows drivers work inside linux. There isn't any support built into the 1.5 version but the new 2.0 will have this module built in. So basically all you would do is modprobe ndiswrapper and it should work. Once you get the card to actually work then setting things up "could" be a little work. You definately want to be secure so you'll need to decide what type security you want to run. Heres some good info.

As for the link at mythtv.org, I think thats by invitation only. This is still a very new project. It took some before Cecil got KnoppMyth up there. I'm in no hurry but thanks for the thought.

to get it right...

Just to get it right:

Ver. 2.0 has ndiswrapper built in, so here the job will be to install windows drivers and configure the card.

Ver 1.5 The same as ver 2.0 except I have to manually install ndiswrapper first (which your nice link actually describes).

Correct?

Regarding security, my wireless network is already secure and requiring each client to supply a WEP key.

Thanks for the quick response

That sounds correct to me.

That sounds correct to me. I've never used it before but I hear it works pretty darn good. OK good your using at least WEP.
