Jarod Wilson joins MythDora
Submitted by d00dtv on March 16, 2007 - 8:08amI would like to announce that the one and only Mr. Jarod Wilson has joined in on the development of MythDora. As most of you know Jarod has written the bible on how to install MythTV running Fedora. His website can be seen at Myth(TV)ology. He is also the co-author of Hacking MythTV. http://www.amazon.com/Hacking-MythTV-ExtremeTech-Jarod-Wilson/dp/0470037873
Jarod works for Red Hat in New England as a software engineer. He will be using tools that create the Fedora images that we see today and using them to hopefully create a better and easier building platform for MythDora.

This is a second bugfix release to version 3.0. Hopefully the last. This is mainly to give Nvidia users the chance to install Legacy drivers for older video cards. I also included a new mythstreamtv rpm with corrected code that should allow you to kill the vlc stream now. Thanks to Jeffrey Kosowsky.

- Added older 8776 Nvidia drivers
- Corrected mythstreamtv
- Updated to latest stable kernel 2.6.18-1.2257.fc5smp

MythDora-3.0
Submitted by d00dtv on November 28, 2006 - 4:47amTHIS IS NOT THE CURRENT VERSION OF MYTHDORA. PLEASE GO TO THE FOLLOWING LINK FOR THE MOST RECENT VERSION:
MythDora 3.0 is now using FC5 along with MythTV-0.20 all on DVD. This DVD will install on various PVR builds. A few changes have been made since the 2.32 version. Hopefully good ones. One big change is that version 3.0 now runs on an SMP kernel. Another big change is that MythDora-3.0 now uses KDE and goes onto a DVD rather than a CD. With change and additions, things just couldn't fit on a CD any longer. The ISO size isn't too much bigger, about 940mb total.
There will no longer be any need for a Unichrome version as the needed bits are now in the modular Xorg-7.0. What is now being used is a single Openchrome Via rpm from the Epia repository at washington.kelkoo.net. This should be enough to allow hardware acceleration for Epia mainboards and S3 video card users.
Please read the F.A.Q. if you have any initial questions. Also look over the README file thats located on your disk. This is where you will find instructions on certain parts of MythDora. There is also an Install Notes at the top of this page which gives you a general idea of how to set things up in mythtvsetup.
One thing you need to make sure of is when you install in either auto or custom, please make sure you disable selinux during install !!!
You will come to this after the first reboot right after being asked about firewall. Good idea to disable firewall as well.
Make sure you complete steps 1-4 in mythtvsetup. If you don't, things will not get created properly in the database. This also goes for those of you who don't have a tuner card installed. At least enter into each section and then esc if you have to. This doesn't apply on a frontend install though.
MythDora 3.0 uses an auto installer that allows your system to install only on the first hard drive and not on your remaining physical hard drives. The installer uses LVM which will allow you to add another HD to your volume group if you so choose.
For those of you new to MythDora, the easiest way to install would be to use the auto install feature. This will install every package on the disk, automatically format your disk(s), create a user mythtv, setup networking, setup MythTV etc., all on the fly. When mythtvsetup finishes, mythfilldatabase will automatically start but only if you have chosen an all-in-one setup and have a valid Data Direct subscription. XMLTV users will need to run mythfilldatabase --manual in the provided xterm screen if need be. After that a reboot will take place as this seems to install your tuner card(s) a little better.
Please be sure to make the appropriate changes in the frontend setup in order for things to work correctly. This may include sound working properly, bitrate adjustment, resolution or changing channels etc.
It's also recommended that you do not do an "apt-get dist-upgrade" , "apt-get upgrade" or "yum update/upgrade" as you run the risk of breaking something. You have been warned!!.
I really want to thank those of you who gave me feedback during the beta testing. This couldn't have been done without you. I really appreciate it.
Also I want to thank one of our members here, inm8, for creating the kickass new logo for MythDora. He did an outstanding job and I don't think you'll be disappointed. I also added in some more eye candy for your viewing pleasure.
Here is a list of the changes included in the new MythDora-3.0.

MythDora 2.32 LiveCD
Submitted by d00dtv on July 6, 2006 - 8:05amI have finally completed a LiveCD version of MythDora. This is a frontend only disk and will only work if you have a mythbackend server to connect to.
Please make sure that your master backend server is correctly setup to accept connections from remote frontends. If your unsure of how to do this, simply do this at your master backend server.
$ mysql -u root mythconverg
mysql> grant all on mythconverg.* to mythtv@"%" identified by "mythtv";
mysql> flush privileges;
mysql> quit
This will open your master backend server to allow ALL hosts so if your concerned about security you may want to read the MySQL section here. Also while your at it, you HAVE to specify the IP address in mythtvsetup of the variables for "IP address for " and "Master Server IP address" to the IP address of the backend's network card, rather than the loopback address (127.0.0.1). This is in the General section of mythtvsetup on your master backend.
MythDora 2.32
Submitted by d00dtv on June 17, 2006 - 3:10pmTHIS IS NOT THE CURRENT VERSION OF MYTHDORA. PLEASE GO TO THE FOLLOWING LINK FOR THE MOST RECENT VERSION:
MythDora 2.32 is a FC4/OS with MythTV-0.19 all on one CD. This CD will install on all kinds of PVR builds. MythDora now comes as two seperate versions. One supporting regular Xorg and the other supporting Unichrome.
Please read the F.A.Q. if you have any initial questions. Also please read the README file thats located on your disk. This is where you will find instructions on certain parts of MythDora. There is also an Install Notes at the top which gives you a general idea of how to set things up in mythtvsetup.
MythDora 2.32 uses a newer auto installer that allows your system to install only on the first hard drive and not on your remaining physical hard drives. The installer uses LVM which will allow you to add another HD to your volume group if you so choose.
For anyone wanting to do a custom install I now have included instructions along with screenshots here.
For those of you new to MythDora, the easiest way to install would be to use the auto install feature. This will install every package on the disk, automatically format your disk(s), create a user mythtv, setup networking, setup MythTV etc., all on the fly. Would you be interested in purchasing a pre-configured, custom built MythDora Box?
Submitted by G on March 1, 2006 - 10:33pmSite upgrade
Submitted by d00dtv on December 7, 2005 - 7:45amAs you may or may not know, the site may look a little different. We have done a much needed upgrade. The search tool now works. There are still a few extra features that still need to be added like chat and the ability to leave a private message. This should be done shortly so bear with us.
G adds: I've also created a forum for website issues. If you notice a problem with the website or have comments related to the site, post them in the forum. Thanks!
Thanks

Comments by Members Only - Sorry
Submitted by G on June 8, 2005 - 8:22amWe've had some spamming on the site, so we've decided the easiest thing from our stand point is to require you to become a member (free, easy to do) in order to post comments. We didn't really want to do this, but because this isn't a site about Texas Hold'em, we felt it was necessary. Sorry to do it.

Comments Moving Into Forums
Submitted by G on February 7, 2005 - 11:40pmWe didn't expect to have such a mess. Honestly, the comments on the different pages are getting out of hand, so I've begun the mass migration from the various pages into the forums. The forums provide a little more organized system for the comments, instead of the mess we are seeing on the different pages... especially the MythBurn page. Anyway, bare with me, and hopefully I won't nuke the database (backups? We don't need no stinking backups!)
Please register and get a username. We don't require it, but it would help the fourms a little. If you don't use the forums, then never mind ;)
